What This Journey Represents
Among Shiva's twelve Jyotirlingas — the self-manifested pillars of divine light — two stand in the Malwa plateau of Madhya Pradesh: Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain and Omkareshwar on the Narmada. Mahakal is unique as the only Jyotirlinga that faces south, the direction of death — he is the conqueror of time itself. Omkareshwar, shaped like the sacred syllable OM on a river island, is where Shiva is worshipped as the lord of the sound that created the universe. This journey moves between them — staying long enough in each to let their energy settle into you.
