What This Journey Represents
The Narmada is the only river in India that grants liberation by mere sight. This short but profound journey follows it from Omkareshwar — home to one of Shiva's twelve Jyotirlingas — 60 km downstream to Maheshwar, the capital of the warrior-saint Queen Ahilyabai Holkar. Here Shiva is worshipped both as the cosmic master and through the devoted hands of a woman who built temples, ghats, and dharamshalas across all of India.
